India: MoU signed for 7500 MW solar plants in Ladakh

The Jammu and Kashmir government has proposed building two mega solar projects in the rocky mountainous region of Ladakh, the Economic Times reported Jan. 28.

The solar parks, with a combined capacity of 7500 MW, will be built in the districts of Leh and Kargil, according to Indian Minister for Science and Technology, Sajjad Gani Lone.

“The State Government has signed MoU with the Government of India for the development of two Mega Solar Parks of 5000 MW capacity in Leh district and 2500 MW capacity in Kargil district,” Lone told the House on Saturday.

He added that the work hasn’t been started because of non-availability of land and lack of electric transmission infrastructure in Ladakh.
